State warned Portland General Electric about ‘serious deficiencies that are potentially system-wide’ in 2020 vegetation management report

In the summer of 2020, Oregon's Public Utility Commission (PUC) cited Portland General Electric (PGE) for a "readily climbable deciduous tree showing evidence of contacting the primary conductor" off Southwest Patton Valley Road in Gaston, Oregon. PGE said last fall it corrected the probable violation and 52 others the PUC labeled as potential public safety hazards. The company has until April 30 to document the correction of hundreds of other probable violations. (PUC)

Oregon’s Public Utility Commission is evaluating the historic February 2021 storm and power outages.

Past government reports, meanwhile, found utilities reduced outages by 25% to 30% after properly trimming trees they’re required to maintain near power lines.
